Middle School (6-8)

Academic Philosophy/ Curriculum

The Lakeside School Middle School prioritizes the creation of an educational environment compatible with the full range of the intellectual, developmental, and social needs of the young adolescent. In addition to the core subjects of science, history, English, and mathematics, students take courses in art, music, computer, and writing. Students learn in an environment where mutual respect, shared responsibility, and the value of each individual are emphasized. All students are held to high expectations and the process of learning as a life-long experience is encouraged. Academic programs are geared toward providing a challenging college preparatory curriculum while recognizing that middle school students also need structure, support, consistency, and encouragement as they mature through these vital years. Students are nurtured in an environment created especially for the needs of their age group in which they are encouraged to develop a sense of self-confidence, self-respect, and self-reliance.
