Lower School Summer reading Assignment
Please note that if you were a student for the 2026-2027 school year there are no extensions regardless of registration date.
The registration deadline is for new students only.
5th Grade
Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls
Students will complete a book study when school starts, which will include assessments. There will be absolutely no extensions granted for students registered prior to July 31st.
6th-9th Summer Reading Assignment
Over the course of the summer, students must read one book from the grade appropriate list provided below. Students are required to turn in a typed two-page summary of the book on the first Friday of school.
There will also be a test on the book. There will be absolutely no extensions granted for students registered prior to July 31st.
6th Grade

10th-12th Summer Reading Assignment
Over the course of the summer, students must read one book from the grade appropriate list provided below. There will be a test during the first week of school along with an in-class essay. This in-class essay will allow for an early look at the student’s writing as well as determine the depth of knowledge from the required reading. Students will complete a Major Works Data Sheet (information below) on the book to be turned in on the first Friday of school. It is attached. There will be absolutely no extensions granted for students enrolled prior to July 31st. Terms to be familiar with for possible in class essay topics: Characterization, Theme, Symbolism
